Yesterday morning we boarded a plane in Melbourne (14 degrees and raining) and landed in Cairns (28 degrees and raining). I went for an afternoon run, almost died thanks to the humidity, and turned up to our 6pm seminar still sweating, despite an hour’s rest and two cold showers.
We only had 10 registrations so I knew it was going to be a quiet night. When only six people turned up, I was begininning to wish we’d booked a dinner table rather than a presentation room. One of the six, appoximately two years old, didn’t like the first word I uttered and proceeded to voice his disdain in no uncertain terms. Two mobile phones rang in the first five minutes. I think they were both using that trick Gen Y use on a date: get a friend to call early in the night and, if the guy is a dud, pretend like something drastic has happened and you need to rush off.
Fortunately, everyone stayed and we even bolstered our numbers by 20% with one late arrival. In the end the presentation went well and we had some quality time with a few loyal Intelligent Investor members and early investors in the fund. But it will be a night we’ll remember when we’re, hopefully, 20 years down the track.
*I’ll be back in the office next week and posting regularly again. Apologies for the hiatus.
