Good friend, fellow Value Investor and principal at PetersMacgregor Michael Haddad sent me an email last week. One paragraph was on the threat Facebook (Nasdaq:FB) poses to Google (Nasdaq:GOOG):
Facebook is so far behind [Google] but that may change.
Classic example: Facebook ‘knows’ that I’m in Las Vegas; that I just got married; it knows what I’m interested in and what my friends are interested in; it knows I’m of Lebanese background (from my family connections) and it knows my wife is Cambodian. I go to my ‘home’ page and they’re still promoting meet single women, steroid alternatives, study online, etc. All completely irrelevant to me! Why don’t they advertise half-day Grand Canyon excursions, shows on tonight in Vegas, Cambodian or Lebanese restaurants in Vegas; etc.
Why indeed? I have no idea why Facebook is so far behind with its advertising. They are supposed to be the clever ones. But they are making money as it is. Imagine what they might make if they get their act together.
